Piperlongume is powerful anticancer agent derived from Piper Longum (Long Pepper) which is a culinary herb popular in Indian cusine. Piperlongumine selectively triggers apoptosis in cancer cells at very low concentrations and is highly bioavailable. The mechanism of piperlongumine in killing cancer cells appears to be related to interference with the thioredoxin antioxidant system. In other words, piperlongumine behaves as a pro-oxidant.
NORI Nutraceuticals has formulated a tablet based on the fruit and root of the Piper Longum plant. Typical dosage is 4 tablets 4 times a day. Adverse side effects have not been observed from whole herb long pepper oral administration.
